Helidragon was commissioned by Van Oord to document the mobilisation of Calypso at Battleship Wharf, Port of Blyth, ahead of the vessel's deployment in support of offshore renewable energy operations.

Mobilisation is a critical stage of an offshore project, involving the preparation of specialist equipment, personnel and materials before a vessel can begin its assignment at sea.

Our production focused on the cable spooling operation, documenting the equipment and processes involved in preparing Calypso for offshore deployment.

Alongside aerial and ground-based filming, we worked on board the vessel to capture the cable handling operations, specialist control systems and the personnel responsible for managing the process.

An interview with the vessel's captain provided additional insight into the mobilisation, helping explain the technical and operational requirements behind the preparations.

The resulting film brought together the scale of the vessel, the detail of its specialist operations and the expertise of the people involved, providing Van Oord with a valuable visual record of its offshore project preparations.
