Video Storytelling in Modular Construction: A Case Study with National Modular and Eden Education Trust

In public-sector construction, the challenge is rarely just about delivering a building. It is about delivering certainty, minimising disruption, meeting compliance standards, and ensuring that the final outcome genuinely supports the people who will use the space every day. Increasingly, organisations are also recognising the value of documenting these projects clearly and responsibly. This is where ‘video storytelling’ plays a growing role.

This case study explores how Helidragon worked alongside National Modular, part of the NCU Group, to document the design, manufacture, delivery, installation, and fit-out of a modular dining facility for the Seagam High School part of Eden Education Trust. The project formed part of a wider video career initiative, aimed at making construction processes more visible and accessible, while also providing long-term value for both the contractor and the education trust.

The Challenge: Growing Student Numbers and Limited Dining Space

Across the education sector, rising student numbers are placing pressure on existing school infrastructure. Dining halls, in particular, can quickly become a bottleneck in the school day, affecting scheduling, wellbeing, and the overall student experience.

For Eden Education Trust, the challenge was clear: there was not enough dining capacity to comfortably support the number of students on site. Any solution needed to be delivered quickly, safely, and with minimal disruption to a live school environment. Traditional construction methods would have introduced longer build times, increased noise, and greater operational impact.

The trust required a solution that balanced speed, quality, and certainty — while meeting the regulatory and safeguarding standards expected of public-sector projects.

The Modular Solution: Off-Site Construction with Predictable Outcomes

National Modular proposed a modular building solution designed to expand dining capacity efficiently and reliably. By manufacturing the building off-site, much of the construction work could be completed in a controlled factory environment, significantly reducing the time required on the school site itself.
